Nach monatelangen Spekulationen und Gerüchten (unsere News vom 07.12.2007) ist es nun endlich offiziell: Letzte Woche erklärte Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter in einem Statement, dass er von seiner Position als Def Jam Präsident zurücktreten werde. Jigga trat seinen Job bei Def Jam am 3.Januar 2004 an, sein Vertrag läuft Ende 2007 aus (unsere News vom 08.12.2004). Als Künstler steht er weiterhin bei Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam unter Vertrag. Jay-Z in seinem Statement über seine Amtszeit als Def Jam Präsident:
L.A. Reid ist nun auf der Suche nach einem Nachfolger. Selbst ins Gespräch brachte sich unter anderem Chuck D von Public Enemy.
